Key components of Clearly Solar thermal systems

We feel it's important to be aware of the elements that make up a solar thermal heating system in order to understand fully what's involved in installing solar thermal systems like these in your home.

Clearly Solar thermal heating systems are made up of four key components:

Its about using the suns natural energy

Flurosorb Flat Plates

The Flurosorb flat plate of the solar thermal system has a large absorber area of 2.35m2 for efficiency and toughened glass so it's hard wearing. It also has a slim line frame giving a total footprint of just 2.51m2 and weighs just 38Kg - so it's one of the lightest flat plates on the market.

Made of brushed aluminum with a neat design that subtly fits with the roof, Clearly Solar flat plates can be installed both in-roof and on-roof, horizontally or vertically, or fixed to A-frames and mounted on a flat roof or in a garden.

The neat design subtly fits in with the roof and low protrusion making it well within the threshold normally required for planning permission.

  • Collector efficiency 80.1%
  • Light transmission 91%
  • Solar radiation absorption 95%
  • Solar radiation emission 5%
  • Shutdown temperature 210oC
  • 40mm insulation for improved efficiency
  • 10 year warranty

Fluropro Controller

The Fluropro controller is the real brains of these solar thermal hot water systems, and they're simple to use. A solar gain display shows how much energy has been collected from the sun since the system began operating.

Intelligent functionality in the controller holds off the boiler whenever there is solar gain to be had making fuel usage as low as possible.

Flurocyl Twin Coil Cylinder

Unvented, stainless steel and narrow enough to fit through any standard airing cupboard door, the Flurocyl twin coil cylinder is a cylinder for all seasons.

To ensure that every last bit of the sun's energy is used, solar fluid is steadily pulsated into the bottom coil of the cylinder, evenly heating the water and ensuring that the boiler does not fire up until it really needs to.

  • Compatible with all open vent and sealed systems, including the full range of Glow-worm boilers
  • Available in 200, 250 and 300 litres
  • Insulation meets CHeSS best practice (loss as low as 1.9kWh/24hrs)
  • 25 year warrantee on cylinder shell

Solar Pump Stations

The solar pump station pumps the solar fluid from the flat plate to the cylinder and back again. Its compact design fits easily on the wall in the house or loft.

The three speed pump enables you to match the flow rate of the system to a wide range of properties. Because heat naturally rises the pump station is fitted with 2 check valves which stops circulation of the solar fluid when the pump is not running, forcing the heat to stay in the cylinder rather than transferring back into the flat plate, increasing system efficiency.

It helps to know the key components when planning and installing solar thermal systems.
